Community Board Grants Club $2,000

Last night was the start of a new era for the kihikihi table tennis club, where after a very close vote from the local community board, it has been confirmed that our club will receive $2,000 of funding to assist with purchasing new club equipment to not only help with the overall club functionality, but specifically commence and support our junior club program that will commence on Wednesday June 19th at 5:30 – 7:30pm.

In a process that commenced back in early March 2013 through our club president and local community counselor Hazel Barnes, it has been a long road since then to enable changes in legislation that has had to go back and forth between the Waipa District Council and the local Community Board to enable the proposal to have been put forward for a deciding vote last night.

We appreciate the support of those community board members that did see the vision and hard work that has gone into the club so far, and look forward to the continued development of the club that we continue to see on a weekly basis.

A big mention has to go out to Hazel Barnes for the continued love and vocal support for our club and intiative, as she clearly saw how we can not only help this community in Kihikihi, but also the youth in offering them an alternative to what is in the world today which is bringing down alot of our youth.

Our club will continue to thrive and this is the start of some injected funds that will assist in growing and developing this sport for many years to come. We welcome other community organisations, people or businesses that may be able to assist our goals, plans and iniatives to contact our club president for more information.

We currently average 20-26 adults on our Monday Club Nights, with a maximum of 30 that we can manage on a nightly basis. We are also looking forward to the commencement of the youth club night where we expect to have similar numbers.
